Social Enterprise

You might not know it but Chequers Kitchen in Deal, Kent, is a social enterprise. As a Community Interest Company we have a social mission – to teach local people from Dover, Deal and Sandwich to cook with fresh ingredients, on a tight budget, so they can access a healthy diet.

We don’t want anyone to miss out just because they can’t afford to pay for a class. So our Keen2Cook classes are subsidised by grant funders and by Chequers Kitchen to make them accessible for everyone who relies on ready meals and takeaways but wants to switch to a healthy, home-cooked diet.

We also have the kind support of private donors and local business sponsors.

To find out more, see a short video about our work, our recent feature on ITV Meridian or contact us

In November 2014 we were delighted to be winners of Looking to Cook's Best community focused cookery school of 2014.

Dining Events

Demo & Dine
Every  month there's a chance to come and dine with us at Chequers Kitchen. our Demo & Dine events are entertaining, informative and, of course, include a delicious meal prepared from the finest local ingredients.

We start at 7.30pm and our guests gather around the cooking island for a 20-minute cookery demonstration. This will  be by Pieter van Zyl or a guest chef or local food supplier. For example, Kieran Renihan of The Chocolution recently demonstrated how to temper raw chocolate and of course we all had to try the results.

After the demo we sit down to eat at long tables.

Look on our Events page for forthcoming diniing events.

Friends' Suppers and Lunches

For those who have dined with us before we hold regular suppers and lunches. These events are for friends and aquaintances, and their friends. It's our chance to invite along folks we think will enjoy meeting each other and with whom we enjoy spending time.

If you have dined with us before and like what we do, you are welcome to join our invitation list for these events. You can expect to meet new people and possibly some old friends. They are convivial events for friendship, laughter, great company and wonderful food.

Cookery workshops

Kids love to cook
We love to see children eating well and when they prepare dishes themselves they are much more likely to enjoy fresh, flavoursome food.

During term time our After School Cookery Club runs on Wednesdays. Children aged 8 upwards learn proper cooking skills and extend their knowledge and enjoyment of good food.

During school holidays we offer family workshops including bread making as well as shorter events to stimulate children's interest. Most family and children's events are subsidised to make them affordable for everyone.
