RESTAURANT

Welcome to Chequers Kitchen Restaurant. Sitting alongside Royal Cinque Ports golf course on the Ancient Highway between Deal and Sandwich in Kent, Chequers restaurant has long been a stopping off point for walkers, cyclists and golfers. Now it’s a destination in its own right.

Come for lunch at weekends including our unique Sunday Rotisserie Roast or drop in for a snack or a drink in the bar.

We are normally open for dinner on Saturday evenings, often for special menu events - call early to book, these events usually sell out.

You can book the restaurant for your wedding reception, private party or celebration.

Our food is varied, vibrant and based on good quality, fresh ingredients with plenty of local sourcing. Influenced by Chef Pieter van Zyl's South African background our food is always interesting and delicious.

Rotisserie chicken isa feature of the menu, along with fabulous salads, fish, steak, daily specials and bar snacks. Children are welcome and there is plenty of outside seating. more

Social Enterprise

You might not know it but Chequers Kitchen in Deal, Kent, is a social enterprise. As a Community Interest Company we have a social mission – to teach local people from Dover, Deal and Sandwich to cook with fresh ingredients, on a tight budget, so they can access a healthy diet.

We don’t want anyone to miss out just because they can’t afford to pay for a class. So our Keen2Cook classes are subsidised by grant funders and by Chequers Kitchen to make them accessible for everyone who relies on ready meals and takeaways but wants to switch to a healthy, home-cooked diet.

We also have the kind support of private donors and local business sponsors.

To find out more, see a short video about our work, our recent feature on ITV Meridian or contact us

In November 2014 we were delighted to be winners of Looking to Cook's Best community focused cookery school of 2014.

Restaurant food

Free range
Rotisserie chicken is a staple on the Chequers Kitchen menu and the oven sits in the open kitchen for all to see.

We have found a supply of free range chickens who do really range free out in the open. We were surprised by how tricky it was to find a supply of truly free range chicken. And we learnt that although the Red Tractor standard is a great bottom line, it’s not a high enough standard to make us feel comfortable relying on it. So free range it is, and our chickens come from Merrifield Farm in Devon - the home of the Creedy Carver.

Sharing

We love to share and we encourage our diners to as well! Saturday lunches usually are a sharing platter of seasonal mixed dishes, such as squash & sage brochetta, wonderful salads, tempura prawns, potato and broad bean tortilla... Pieter selects flavoursome, interesting, fresh and seasonal dishes which vary from week to week.

Cookery workshops

Kids love to cook
We love to see children eating well and when they prepare dishes themselves they are much more likely to enjoy fresh, flavoursome food.

During term time our After School Cookery Club runs on Wednesdays. Children aged 8 upwards learn proper cooking skills and extend their knowledge and enjoyment of good food.

During school holidays we offer family workshops including bread making as well as shorter events to stimulate children's interest. Most family and children's events are subsidised to make them affordable for everyone.
